Beach Day with #HTownkid

Beach Day with #HTownkid
I spent the day with my son Anthony at the beach at Galveston, TX on Easter Sunday.  It has been at least a year since he had been there. I heard the whining and questioning as to why we are driving "sooo far" "it's going to take foreverrrr" complaints from a 6 year old,  but I assured him he would thank me later..and that he did!

We hit the road and snap chatted the day. Watch the video below that I posted to YouTube.

If you aren't following me on snap, add me now! #LatinaInHtown - I am actually a finalist at the Tecla Awards for best snapchat storyteller.

Disney #PowerOfDoingGood Tour

Life of a busy SpoiledOne has caused a gap in my posting but I really wanted to share what Anthony and I did today. Normally, I wouldn't allow for AC (my son) to skip school but the  Disney #powerofdoinggood tour made a stop in Houston and I knew he would enjoy it. We hit the road and made the long drive to enjoy our day.

Despite the drastic heat, AC and I had a wonderful time. We walked into the park greeted with a yellow tote bag and a water bottle. The bottle was used for us to hydrate ourselves with while in the park, it helped that Disney had water machines out for us to fill the bottles. We walked through several "adventures" from helping Jake read a book, to learning how to recycle, caring for the animals and promising to be good by making promise locks. We finally made our way to the stage area where Sophia and Jake would entertain the children.

Anthony was excited to be there, the only thing he says was missing was a HUG from Sophia and Jake. :)

He had a great time, thanks for making the stop in Houston, Disney!

Expert potty training tips #everyflush
Being a Huggies Madrina Del Bano I was able to participate in a conference call with Dr. Alberto Cotton and fellow mom blogger Jeannette Kaplun about potty training. Since my son is 3, potty training is in full effect and this call was very helpful to very first potty training experience.

Dr. Alberto Cotton and fellow mom blogger Jeannette Kapluna
Being that my son is 3, I was feeling a bit stressed when the topic of my son not being potty trained was brought up. I had heard that boys and girls are a lot different obviously, but the myth that boys take a little longer and it's simply a little harder was taking its toll.

So this is what I learned:
  1. All children are different and there are four stages of potty training. Dr. Cotton states that the 1st stage is when the child, in this case my son is wearing a diaper and is wet but it doesn't bother him. He (Anthony) was at this step for a couple of months. The 2nd stage is when the child takes off his diaper and asks to be changed because he cannot stand to be wet. Anthony totally skipped this step. He never told me he needed to be changed, I always changed him before I thought he felt uncomfortable. I do talk and explain to him that a wet diaper is no fun and that it was best for him to let me know so that I can change him.*Speaking to a 2 year old sometimes is the same as talking to a wall. lol  Stage 3 is when the child asks to potty but doesn't make it to the toilet on time and the 4th stage is when the child asks to be taken to the potty and makes it on time.  I am proud to say that we are now officially at the 4th stage of potty training and completely skipped over the 3rd stage.  I have to admit, we are celebrating every moment!
  2. Sitting or standing for boys- whatever works at the moment. My son is sitting, but now recently has been wanting to stand. We are still working on it.
  3. Use a Timer- children need structure and repetitiveness and according to Ms. Jeannette setting a 30 minute timer will remind them that its time to go to the potty and after a while won't need a timer because they will automatically know.
  4. Wiping- for boys is a little easier, girls we must remind them how to wipe and constantly keep reminding them the importance of cleaning.
  5. Public restrooms- This is a big deal for me. Since my son has been sitting at home, I hate for him to sit at a public restroom. In Latin America, it's OK for a boy to pee by the tree but here in America it isn't seen as normal says Dr. Cotton. He suggests waiting. I am taking Ms. Jeannette's advice and buying a portable seat and buy lots of antibacterial wipes, that way I won't have to worry about my son touching anything which drives me crazy.

We are making Anthony's potty training a family affair. Since he goes over to his auntie and grandparent's house, we have encouraged them to support us in our efforts of saving money on diapers and assist us in potty training. Luckily like I mentioned, since he is in stage 4,  he is asking to sit on the potty and he is listening so it's making his visits a little easier.

We are celebrating every step of the way by singing a song like Ms. Jeannette suggested or rewarding Anthony with stickers, and hopefully in just a few more months he will be fully potty trained.

Huggies has an app, that you can download that has tips on making potty training a bit easier.

Mommy Duties - Potty Training AC

Meet Anthony Carter. He's 3, full of energy and life, he's very curious, intuitive and as all 3 year old boys are, he's very daring!  But like I said, he is 3, so we've come to that time in AC's life where it's potty training time and mommy and daddy are on double duty...

4 million toddlers will embark on potty training each year So when I was asked to participate in the "Madrinas Del Bano" Every Flush Counts campaign by Pull-Ups I thought it was great and right on time!  We have been trying different potty training techniques for the past year, and obviously with no success.  Anthony recently turned 3 and we enrolled him in a montessori school where potty training is something they are also very serious about.  He is learning how to pull his pants up and down and potty in the toilet and this is happening about every 15/20 minutes. *I am the proudest mommy when I pick him up in the same clothes I took him to school in, because that means he is learning to potty and not pee on himself which changes his outfit.
Oh but when we get home it's a completely different story... I ask him to potty the kicking, crying and stomping usually comes along with it  and becomes discouraging to say the least.

I've discovered that the Pull Ups facebook page found at  http://www.facebook.com/pullups  has tons of tips and suggestions for potty training and not just ads focused on selling a product. A great thing about this campaign is that it motivates mothers not to give up! I As a new mom, I am starting to believe the myth that girls learn faster than boys, especially when the tantrums come into play.  I will not give up trying though....Diapers are expensive and honestly I am tired of changing them lol

So this is the plan:

We (daddy and I) will reward and do all we can to get Anthony to sit on his potty and do the do. We are also encouraging our family to help with the efforts and milestone achievements. There will be a reward after every flush, we will clap, sing and we will encourage! It's a party, It's a party!
We have stickers, lollipops and visits to Chuck-E-Cheese as rewards! ( yes we will even bribe)

I'll keep you guys posted on Anthony's milestones and how we are progressing at potty training soon so for now watch this video and learn more about Pull -Ups :)
