Don't Miss Important Eye Exams For Our Kiddos

This post has been sponsored by Visionworks. All opinions are mine alone. #MiVisionworks

Where has time gone?  A full week of school has come and went and HTownKid aka my beautiful son, Anthony is now a 1st grader. From what he has shared with me about his time in class he's had a wonderful time. With all the hustle and bustle of enjoying our summer vacation and planning for back to school we didn't make time for his eye exam.

I have to be truthful, I wasn't planning on having his eyes checked because for one I never wore glasses as a child. Secondly, he's never mentioned he has troubles with his vision, but the more I thought about it I must get his eyes checked because his daddy was a glasses baby so in reality; there is a 50/50 chance. I'm glad to be partnering with Vision Works to promote the importance of having our kids' eyes checked. They have an easy to use and full of information page for the "Let's go see" campaign that you guys will learn from just as I did.

It's recommend that children get a comprehensive eyes exam between the ages of 3 and 6 so according to the recos we are due for a check up.

What are the signs that my child might have trouble seeing?
  • Headaches and dizziness
  • Squinting
  • Holding books close to their face or too far away
  • Sitting close to the TV, computer or tablet
  • Twisting or tilting their head to favor one eye
  • Frequent blinking or rubbing their eyes
  • Inability to judge distance properly (bumping into things)
  • Decreased performance in school and athletics

One thing that Anthony does do often is sit close to the TV's at home plus play on his tablet and phone and although I have reiterate it every time he does it anyway - one more reason to get his vision checked.

We have a vision appointment next week, I'll keep you guys updated on the outcome. Wish me luck and hope its not like his hair appointment. If he happens to need glasses, Vision Works has a great and stylish selection of glasses for all children and their personal style.

Getting Back To School Ready With Target

Happy Monday SpoiledOnes!

How was your weekend? Ours was entertaining as always with little Anthony. H-Town Kid is heading into the 1st grade and although we make several trips to Target throughout the year, this one over the weekend was different. Our focus this time was getting back to school ready. He's not ready for summer to be over and although it is bitter sweet,  I am ready for the next step in his educational life aka mommy needs a break.

He is learning so much, growing so much, has his own energetic and witty attitude.
Raise your hands if you've ever been to Target for 1 thing and end up walking out spending $100 or more all because the many other item that we all of a sudden need are staring at us whispering "buy me". Thanks, I knew it was not just me.

We walked in and of course, Anthony was hungry. I'm always up for some popcorn from Target. We sat for 30 minutes, thats how long it took him to eat 2 personal pan pizzas, I people watched, thanking God that I only had one child to get ready for back to school. We have kept up with his "homework" through out the summer so make his transition into 1st grade easier. .

We headed over to the "School Shop" the Target designated school supplies section where other children and parents were shopping. I am so glad I was not the only one who looked confused while following a list. The color coded end caps made it easy for Anthony to help me shop for his school supplies. He got to pick his 1st grade lunch bag and a very cool Star Wars school box.

We shopped for about another hour, walking through the boys section, picking out new pieces to add to his wardrobe. He loves to try clothes and I love to see how he suddenly transforms himself to a superstar with his confidence shining after he feels good in a new jacket or t-shirt. It's so cute!

The Cartwheel app by Target has its extra savings at the store making it easy for us to save simply by downloading the app. Back to school savings will be available on the app until September but trust me, you'll want to keep the app and enjoy the savings year round. This weekend was also tax free weekend in Texas which helped me save even more $.

Y'all make sure to take advantage of the back to school savings through out the month of August. During the 2nd and 3rd week of August you'll earn a $5 gift card when spending $30, you'll also save 30% off school uniforms and next week kids apparel savings are up to 30%.

Don't forget to stop by the mommy section and spoil yourself a little too. We deserve that cute little something something :)

Curious George Photo Opp at Children's Museum of Houston

Children's Museum of Houston goes bananas for endless curiosity!

Take a historical journey and visit with Curious George as he swings by the Children’s Museum of Houston just in time for his 75th anniversary.

But did you know World War II threw a monkey wrench into publishing plans? Written and drawn by Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey, the couple fled Paris in June 1940 on self-made bicycles carrying the “Curious George” manuscript with them. After escaping, the rest became history!

Join me along with my son Anthony #HtownKid this weekend as we celebrate the upcoming 75th anniversary of Curious George.

Festival People [recap] Disney Love

Friday, September 5, 2014

If you have been following me on Instagram and Twitter you probably noticed I attended the festivities in San Antonio, that being Festival People. I was fortunate to connect with my Cricket Nation family who sponsored by travels in exchange for social media engagement and being that I am a Cricket Advocate that gave me and the people I connected with
"Something to Smile About"! All opinions about the festival and Cricket are my own.

So, this is the 3rd time the People en EspaƱol Festival has been held in San Antonio, and it was my first time attending so I was really excited to get on the road and on with the festivities.

I arrived in sunny San Antonio, where my Cricket phone service worked like a charm! We stayed the Grand Hyatt which is the white building. The parking was underground, and I was surprised that my phone had service while 2 levels below ground.
